TOUR OVERVIEW
This 7-Day Great Migration, Mara River & Big Five Safari combines Tanzania’s iconic wildlife destinations with the seasonal spectacle of the Great Migration. The journey begins with arrival in Arusha before exploring Tarangire National Park, Central Serengeti, Northern Serengeti and the Kogatende area near the Mara River. The safari then returns through Central Serengeti to Karatu before the final game drive in Ngorongoro Crater and transfer to Arusha for departure. Along the way, you will have excellent opportunities to see lions, elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, cheetahs and other wildlife. During the migration season, Northern Serengeti offers the possibility of witnessing dramatic Mara River crossings, although crossings are natural events and cannot be guaranteed.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
The best time for this safari is generally July to October, when the Great Migration is typically in Northern Serengeti and the Mara River region. August and September are particularly popular months for visiting the Kogatende area and searching for possible river crossings. However, migration follows rainfall and grazing conditions, so the exact location of the herds and timing of river crossings can vary from year to year.
